SURGbase:  FEATURES
Enables Surgical Registrars and Surgeons to record all patient demographic, operation, and complication details in a well structured, simple-to-use program
SURGbase Enterprise is a patient-centred database. Each patient can have multiple admissions, operations, and complications. A password governs access to the program, and prevents users from one unit accessing patients from a different specialty. Patients are easily accessed or added via the Main Menu Screen (see Figure 1.1) - screen caps of the Enterprise version will be added soon, however, the model of data entry is similar.

“Active” patients are stored within easy reach, while recently discharged patients can still be accessed from the Main Menu screen. “Clicking” a patient using the mouse moves the user to the “Patient Input” screen (see Figure 1.2)
The “Patient Input” screen (Figure 1.2) provides the current admission summary for any given patient, including operative procedures, complications, and past medical history items. Admission notes are included for complex patients.

For operations, the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) is used to prevent duplication. In most instances, the only typing that needs to be done is the patient demographics (Name, DOB, and MRN), and operation detail (optional). All other information is drawn from drop-down, point-and-click style boxes. These boxes make data entry very economical, and ensures consistency of auditing, minimising spelling errors.

Each operative experience can have multiple MBS item numbers, and multiple Surgeons / Registrars. The Operation Report can be saved, or printed into a highly presentable, typed summary (see Figure 2.1).
