Neonatal database

Neonatal medicine is complex. Patients frequently have multiple diagnoses requiring active management. They have daily weight measurements that influence decision-making. Their nutritional requirements are varied. Multiple teams share this information, including medical, nursing, and allied health personnel.

SURGbase have developed a database to facilitate information sharing amongst medical, nursing and allied health staff. NEObase has been used at the Special Care Nursery at Dandenong Hospital (Victoria, Australia) for the past five years. This database was conceived by a doctor within the nursery, in conjunction with the Special Care nursing staff. It has been maintained as a goodwill project since this time.

SURGbase have agreed to fund the maintenance of the neonatal database at Dandenong Hospital indefinitely, and are evaluating the merits of scaling up this database for multiple users at larger nurseries.
