Improved handover
Clinically relevant audits can be produced daily, facilitating handover between junior doctors at shift-change and weekend cover. Operative interventions are inserted prospectively (usually in theatre), which results in the handover sheets being a useful starting point for organising patient care. These sheets can include post-operative orders (eg., check Calcium day 1 post-op), and evolving ward tasks (eg., repeat ECG at 2300hrs).
A link to the hospital information system can be established whereby patients are directly translated into the database, prior to being formally ‘admitted’ by the (junior) medical staff.
