SURGbase Enterprise improves existing communication between surgeons, registrars, and ward staff, and assists with communicating inpatient events from hospitals to general practitioners (GPs).

SURGbase offers the operating Surgeon / Registrar the ability to produce typed operation notes with minimal effort. Operation templates can be referenced and saved, which enable surgeons to type common procedures once, and replicate these templates for multiple patients. Post-operative orders can be addressed in a similar manner. This eliminates the scenario of handwriting errors resulting in prolonged inpatient stay or inappropriate post-operative care. In addition, recording the operation notes in this manner provides a lasting record of the patient’s operative experience should re-exploration / investigation be required.

One of the reports that SURGbase Enterprise can produce is a discharge letter for GPs, which can be printed on the day of surgery (for day-cases), and provides hospitals with an excellent means of communicating with their referring doctors. A comprehensive GP database can be incorporated into the program to speed up data entry of LMO names / practice addresses, or alternatively, these can be sourced from the hospital information system if this link is established.
