The capacity to store radiology images and digital photographs is essential to the facilitation of audit in modern surgical practice.

The rapid rise in the use digital imaging has not been matched by the information systems in hospitals. Images are commonly taken in theatre and stored on individual cameras or isolated folders on PCs. Given the low cost of storage, capturing these images on the hospital server and embedding them into a secure environment is far more appropriate.

SURGbase will provide an option for image storage whereby the operative intervention is tagged to images. This feature is still in development.
